Not nearly so scary as your word choice

In point of fact, signor Alighieri also made significant stops in purgatory and heaven on his journey. But you wouldn't think to correct Jack Nicholson once he puts on that scary mask of high dungeon.

-- From a review of "The Bucket List" by Jan Stuart in the freebie AM New York

There was a lot to take issue with in this review, apart from the overall take which I suspect was on the mark. And in truth I have no idea whether the error was the author's or that of an overzealous (if undereducated) editor .. that is, supposing that AM New York employs editors.

Ack! High dungeon?! Ack! Are we all going to hell in a handbasket?! Or to a dudgeon? What I love is that dudgeon also used to mean the hilt of a sword which gives it that extra special twist, so to speak!
